Program Offerings

Introduction to West African Dance

Target Group: All grades

Description: An introductory workshop that covers the basics of West African dance, including its history, cultural significance, and basic movements.

Duration: 1-2 hours

Drum and Dance Assembly

Target Group: All grades

Description: A vibrant assembly featuring live drumming and dance performances, showcasing traditional dances from various West African countries.

Duration: 45-60 minutes

3. Dance and Storytelling

Target Group: Elementary schools

Description: This program combines traditional dance with storytelling, where dancers perform while narrators explain the stories and legends behind the dances.

Duration: 1 hour

4. Cultural Immersion Days

Target Group: Middle and High schools

Description: A day-long event that immerses students in West African culture through dance workshops, costume and instrument demonstrations, and guest speakers.

Duration: Full school day

5. Masterclass Series

Target Group: High schools

Description: Advanced workshops for students with a strong interest in dance, focusing on technique, choreography, and the cultural context of various dances.

Duration: 2-3 hours per session

West African Dance Troupe Collaboration

Target Group: All grades

Description: Students learn a dance routine over several sessions and perform alongside a professional West African dance troupe at a school event.

Duration: Multiple sessions leading up to a final performance

Interactive Dance Workshops

Description: Hands-on workshops where students actively participate in learning dances, drum rhythms, and songs.

End-of-Year Showcase

Target Group: Participants in the dance program

Description: A year-end event where students showcase the dances they have learned throughout the year to the school and their families.

Description: A focus on the rhythms of West African music and how they integrate with dance, including hands-on drumming experience.

Duration: 1 hour
